At Russlaw.co.uk our assignments are usually for medical education and training or sales/promotion purposes.
Recently, however, we completed a project that was a little unusual, and at the time didn’t realise the significance of it. We were approached by a Southeast Asia contact to supply a powtoon explainer video promoting a confidential chatbot service about contraception for women.
The chatbot service
The user could download an app. This would enable instant access to a trusted advisor who would give strictly confidential advice on contraception and OC pills. The user could also be guided to a Participating Pharmacist for skilled counselling and advice. There were plans to extend this into a comprehensive website. This chatbot and many others are hosted under the Beyer umbrella. There is an extensive use of AI and there is no doubt that it will be introduced into this contraception chatbot covering the most commonly asked questions.
The benefits of the contraception chatbot
The main value of the service, apart from the obvious information and education, is that it allows women to talk freely and safely about contraception without any religious or cultural constraints.
Women’s rights in Southeast Asia
In view of the current drive for women’s rights: equal pay, more representation at senior levels, ‘Me Too’ etc.; is this contraception chatbot the beginning of a women’s emancipation movement in Southeast Asia, or have we had a glimpse of an established drive demanding rights for women in the region?
Studies have shown that only a small number of visitors recalled the last display ad they saw and the company or product it promoted. Most users just dont click on banner ads and they just aren’t effective any more. This article aims to explain why this has happened, and how an explainer video can do the job for you instead.
Infolinks is an interesting company that are going to study the psychology of this banner blindness over the course of the year and welcomes participation from the industry.
The infamous banner ad has been used for almost twenty years now, but it has little to show for itself. People find they are usually unimaginative and also intrusive, but most website visitors just ignore them completely. On top of all this research, the click-through rate of banner ads is only around 0.1 percent, or less. Did you know that as many as half of clicks on mobile banner ads are accidental! Industry experts agree: the banner ad is about the worst of what online advertising can offer, and it is time to think differently.
Another difficult truth for advertisers is that Google Adwords are becoming much less effective, and starting to suffer the same fate as the banner ad. Website visitors have started ignoring, or avoiding these ads that appear at the top of a Google Search and instead looking directly to where they can find the most organic or ‘honest’ results. These ‘honest’ results are just underneath the paid ads and are there because they were selected organically by googles incredibly sophisticated algorithm. The Mighty Google Algorithm is not actually just a set of ranking factors, but more of a collection of protocols, applications, operating systems, and databases. The main ones are nicknamed Panda, Penguin, Hummingbird and Pigeon, and if you are involved in SEO or search engine optimization or blogging you have most likely heard of them. Most people don’t know it but almost every day, Google introduces changes to its powerful ranking algorithm. Some are just small tweaks; but others can seriously shake up the search engine results.
There is another way that has been proven to work. Explainer videos
Successful explainer videos take careful planning but can bear banner blindness. If you do it right the rewards will be abundant and generate a good ROI. Digital marketers must adapt accordingly to capitalize on the consumer mindset that is driving this change. Explainer videos are videos that explains a concept, a product, a function, or maybe a process. When best they do this in a fun and engaging way. Where hundreds of words might have been needed in the past to explain a concept, a 30-60 second video could do it better. Key factors to a good explainer video are to address the viewers pain, and then present the solution in a fun and engaging way. A simple style usually works best.
The largest group of your website visitors will usually be visual Learners. They love anything visual, and a fresh animation that will make them laugh is the perfect way to engage them and keep them on your site. They will happily watch your video, and remember much more of your information this way. If it was any good, then chances are they will tell others about it.
Auditory learners the next highest volume of visitors your website will get. The good news is an explainer video will still work perfectly. With a strong script and a professional voice over the Auditory learners will still get the key takeaways you want them to.

Whiteboard animations Grab your visitors attention, which means you get to deliver the perfect sales pitch every time someone finds your website
It has taken a few years, but Video is now all over the internet. You can’t avoid it. Animated videos such as powtoons, videoscribes or other Whiteboard videos are a really fun way to tell a story or get a message across. The cartoon style of these videos makes them a surprisingly clever method for delivering important information to your site visitors. They have been proven to draw people in and hold their attention for the entire length of the video. Thanks to sites like youtube and vimeo, you can add a video to your website in minutes.
Many of my clients come to me with a very complex message that they need to get across to their web visitors quickly and easily. This is where the whiteboard video format comes in. By adding some humour to sensitive or complex subjects the message is transformed and becomes so much easier to deliver.
This brings me to my first reason you should have a whiteboard video on your website.
REASON 1: You can get people to listen to a complex message if you deliver it as an animated whiteboard video.
Here is a link to a wonderful FREE book created by the powtoon scientists that is jam-packed with brilliant information about creating animated videos. Now you have got your website visitors to listen to your message you can pat yourself on the back and perhaps even celebrate… but there is something else that needs to happen for this whole process to have been a success. You need your visitors to REMEMBER what they saw after they have seen your message. This brings us to the second reason on the list. The simple fact is that people remember whiteboard videos if they are done well.
REASON 2: People are much more likely to remember your message if it is visual
SO now you have managed to get people to listen to you, and there is a really good chance that if you asked them about what they saw the next day, they would be able to tell you. The third reason on the list is where it really starts to get fun. Have you ever seen a new business open up in your local area? If you walk past on the grand opening day you may well see people in brightly dressed costume and funny hats, probably handing out information. Someone might be juggling while riding around on a unicycle. Those opening days are easy to remember, aren’t they? and they are even harder to forget! You were probably telling friends and family about it the next day.
Whimpy used to have a poor guy dressed up as a hamburger outside their restaurant the whole day, handing out flyers and promotions. We all still remember him, don’t we! The marketing specialists behind those companies knew how to get noticed and get people talking about them.
REASON 3: Having a whiteboard animation on your site will get you noticed.
Hopefully, I have made my point. But just in case you still aren’t convinced, can sign up for a free trial of videoscribe. I promise you won’t regret it.
If you are in the market for animated explainer videos uk or are in the process of creating one, then getting the right font, or even creating your own font is a vital step in keeping your video engaging.
After downloading all kinds of free fonts over the years, and using them in videoscribe to create our whiteboard explainer animations, I finally decided it was time to try and make my own font.
I searched the Internet and quickly found a free online service.
By downloading a simple template from www.myscriptfont.com I was able to quickly and easily create my own handwritten font that works great in videoscribe and adobe illustrator.
I did a quick test in videoscribe and it worked really well.
(The whole effect seems to have come out much better than I had hoped for, because I am quite a messy writer, proven by the fact that on a couple of my most recent whiteboard animations I had to re write some of my text and labels so that it was legible! )
NOT all animated explainer videos uk, are created equally though!
And while one video style may yield earth shattering results for one business, it may be a complete dud for your business. If different types of styles have been swirling around your head and have left you confused then you may need to do some basic research to get the right look for your business.
This is one of my new favourite fonts! Luckily some of my clients prefer my hand written font, but I love the Denne sketchy font. Here is another fantastic font that you can use in a videoscribe or explainer videos uk, i love it.
The primary key to an effective video is to select the video style that best fits your business marketing objectives and target audience.
The first thing to realize is that every font has its own pros and cons. Some are more straightforward, some are more creative, and some are more youthful. In this way, some styles are more appropriate for different industries than others. The pros of whiteboard videos is that they are very to the point, and communicate information in a simple and effective way. The font or fonts used in the video can make or break it. You will need to consider who your target audience is and what they will feel most at home reading. A whiteboard animation can be highly engaging and spark curiosity in viewers, and the font you choose is an integral part of the video. They can even be inverted to look like a blackboard video and this makes the font really stand out nicely.
Although these videos are limited in the amount of color and animation they contain, by using carefully selected coloured fonts can really improve your video, and make it stand out . If you’re looking to convey your information in a clear and effective way you can look read up on the history of sketch notes or visual note taking. I call them the ‘grandfather’ of animated explainer videos uk, and a good sketch note had a successful blend of cool looking fonts and nice cartoons or doodles.
A doodle video is great news for cartoonists and illustrators
In recent years the great news for doodlers and cartoonists has been the increasing ease of producing a simple but effective whiteboard animation with the assistance of computer technology. We have seen how effective this tech has been in the film industry, and the great news is that it is also working for artists everywhere. Many people still don’t know what a whiteboard animation is though. The term explainer video or video presentation is becoming more common. A doodle animation as they are often called relies on simplicity and usually visual humour to convey the message. People love fast moving graphics presented in a fun style.
So when you see these videos, the key to them is that the simpler the visuals are, the less effort your brain will need to process the image and make sense of it.
There are a few other important factors to a doodle video though. Perhaps the most important one is that these videos are not age specific or gender specific. They are perfect for viewers ranging from millennials to silver surfers. The tech industry loves a doodle video and appreciates their power for just these reasons. They appreciate that their messages or services are often complex and hard to explain. If they can order a low cost but highly effective video that can do the explaining for them then they are quids in.
If we think about it we all learnt the incredible power of the whiteboard technique at school. When the teacher wrote or drew something on a whiteboard we knew we were about to received some useful information.
A doodle animation has proved itself without doubt to be the most versatile of the video presentation techniques. When done right, they will be brimming with entertaining drawings that are not limited by the usual stock image restrictions. The artist can draw anything he wants, and connect it up to all of the other images in the doodle video. Some of the best ones have a small amount of colour that reflects the clients branding.
