Contraception Chatbot for Women in Southeast Asia
by russlaw | June 21, 2018 | GeneralAt Russlaw.co.uk our assignments are usually for medical education and training or sales/promotion purposes.
Recently, however, we completed a project that was a little unusual, and at the time didn’t realise the significance of it. We were approached by a Southeast Asia contact to supply a powtoon explainer video promoting a confidential chatbot service about contraception for women.

The chatbot service
The user could download an app. This would enable instant access to a trusted advisor who would give strictly confidential advice on contraception and OC pills. The user could also be guided to a Participating Pharmacist for skilled counselling and advice. There were plans to extend this into a comprehensive website. This chatbot and many others are hosted under the Bayer umbrella. There is an extensive use of AI and there is no doubt that it will be introduced into this contraception chatbot covering the most commonly asked questions.

The benefits of the contraception chatbot
The main value of the service, apart from the obvious information and education, is that it allows women to talk freely and safely about contraception without any religious or cultural constraints.
Women’s rights in Southeast Asia
In view of the current drive for women’s rights: equal pay, more representation at senior levels, ‘Me Too’ etc.; is this contraception chatbot the beginning of a women’s emancipation movement in Southeast Asia, or have we had a glimpse of an established drive demanding rights for women in the region?
